WALES MILLENNIUM CENTRE WINS “BRITAIN’S MOST WELCOMING THEATRE” AWARD

WALES MILLENNIUM CENTRE WINS “BRITAIN’S MOST WELCOMING THEATRE” AWARD Wales Millennium Centre (WMC) has today (Thursday 15 May) been voted Britain’s Most Welcoming Theatre.

WMC won the 2008 Theatrical Management Association award for the high quality of its service to the public.

The management team at WMC picked up the accolade – the industry’s equivalent of an ‘Oscar’ - at the TMA annual lunch in the heart of London’s ‘Theatreland’.

Four theatres across the UK had been shortlisted in the category, but it was the strength and depth of WMC’s submission that won the day.

WMC Chief Executive, Judith Isherwood, said, “We’re absolutely delighted to win this prestigious award. We’ve given a warm Welsh welcome to over four and a half million visitors since we opened less than four years ago.

“We strive hard to provide the very best service to our customers in every single way, from the moment they come through the door. The award highlights the hard work of every single member of staff at WMC and the effort we put in to making us the most welcoming theatre in the UK.”

Now in their fourth year, The TMA Management Awards celebrate excellence in the various disciplines of management within the performing arts. They have established themselves as a much sought after means of public recognition for the high standard of work which contributes to the continuing success of the industry.

The Most Welcoming Theatre Award recognises the achievements of an individual theatre, arts centre or venue in providing a high quality of service to the public. Areas covered include general box office and customer relations service, improved services for disabled customers and the development of front of house and venue access facilities. The award may also be given to a company that demonstrates success in its overall management of customer services across a number of departments.

Of the Awards themselves, Derek Nicholls, president of the TMA said: “The TMA Management Awards are the opportunity for the industry to celebrate the great work that is done in managing theatres and venues across the whole of the UK. It is one of the few times in the year that these important theatre people, who provide much needed expertise, receive the wider appreciation that that they rightly deserve.”
