WALES MILLENNIUM CENTRE LAUNCHES NEW MEMBERSHIP SCHEME



Wales Millennium Centre has launched its brand-new membership scheme, offering exclusive benefits and discounts. Perfect for theatre lovers, Ffrind and Ffrind+ enhance the audience’s theatre-going experience beyond the walls of the auditorium, promoting and nurturing the enjoyment of the arts in Wales.



From £45 a year, Ffrind membership benefits include priority booking on smash-hit West End shows, discounts in the theatre bars and restaurants, exclusive ticket offers and regular e-mail updates. PERFORMANCES FOR THE CURIOUS AUTUMN 2019 KICKS OFF ON 14 OCTOBER



More than 30 productions featuring new writing, circus, comedy, dance, spoken word, scratch performances, burlesque and drag will feature in the autumn’s Performances for the Curious season, which opens on 14 October with the first of many Scratch performances.



The biennial season champions experimental, contemporary new work and gives audiences an affordable but exhilarating glimpse of some of the latest developments in performance from Wales – in Welsh and English - and beyond, across several artforms.



Autumn’s season includes the premiere of The Invisible Woman, a one-woman, dark comedy written by Ailsa Jenkins, This is Me, Shirley Bassey, Rachael Roberts’ tribute to one of Cardiff’s best-loved exports, Drudwen, a modern fairytale weaving circus, physical theatre and live music, and I Wish I Was a Mountain, Theatr Iolo’s stunning, philosophical show for younger audiences.

LOVECRAFT (NOT THE SEX SHOP IN CARDIFF) GOES ON WALES-WIDE TOUR – ALONGSIDE A NEW, WELSH-LANGUAGE VERSION



Fresh from its second run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Lovecraft (Not the Sex Shop in Cardiff), a unique, one-woman, science-comedy musical from BAFTA Award-nominated, Welsh actress and singer Carys Eleri, will take on a 11-venue tour of Wales this autumn alongside a brand new, Welsh language adaptation called Cer i Grafu… sori… GARU!



Written and performed by Carys Eleri, Lovecraft (Not the Sex Shop in Cardiff)/Cer i Grafu… sori… GARU! is a joyous but deeply personal show about the neuroscience of love and loneliness, tackling the most current themes of wellbeing and mental health with a soundtrack of original, multi-genre songs.



It is Carys’ debut as a writer – she is perhaps best known as the lead actor in S4C’s hit series Parch, for which she was nominated for a BAFTA in 2018 – and it was developed from scratch with the support of Wales Millennium Centre.



Lovecraft (Not the Sex Shop in Cardiff)/Cer i Grafu… sori… GARU! will tour venues across Wales 17 October-30 November.




THREE HALLOWEEN-THEMED SUPPER CLWBS CONFIRMED 31 OCT-2 NOV



Supper Clwb – a whole evening’s entertainment served with two cocktails and three small plates, all for just £30 - launched at Wales Millennium Centre at the beginning of June, and have been a huge hit with audiences.



The Centre is thrilled to announce THREE Halloween-themed Supper Clwbs this autumn;

Burlesque on Thursday 31 October
Musicals on Friday 1 November
Drag on 2 November


All three will take place in ffresh, doors open at 7pm for a 7.45pm start.





BRENDAN COLE BRINGS BRAND NEW SHOW BRENDAN: SHOW MAN TO THE CENTRE



BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing’s very first winner Brendan Cole returns to Wales Millennium Centre with a brand new show. Brendan: Show Man showcases every style of ballroom and Latin dance to bring together an extravaganza of music and dance. Brendan will be joined by an amazing team of hand-picked championship dancers, singers and a live band, as well as a specially selected choir of young people to perform to the music and songs of some of the greatest legends and contemporary artistes.



Brendan: Show Man will be at Wales Millennium Centre 15 March 2020.

ELVIS COSTELLO AND THE IMPOSTERS ANNOUNCE UK SPRING TOUR



Elvis Costello and The Imposters will bring their new show to the U.K. for their first tour of the decade in February and March, 2020, called “Just Trust.”



This superlative ensemble - Steve Nieve on keyboards, Pete Thomas on drums, and bassist and vocalist, Davey Faragher - are once again augmented by singers Kitten Kuroi and Briana Lee, all of whom were heard on the acclaimed 2018 Concord Records release, 'Look Now,' numbers from which will find their rightful place among the highlights from one of the most unique and renowned song catalogues in popular music.



The concert marks a return visit to Wales Millennium Centre for the band after performing at Festival of Voice in 2018.



Elvis Costello and The Imposters will be at Wales Millennium Centre 16th March 2020.





FULL CAST ANNOUNCED FOR MATTHEW BOURNE’S THE RED SHOES



The full cast has been announced for the first revival of Matthew Bourne’s double Olivier award-winning, 2016 smash hit production of The Red Shoes. Most of the original leading cast will be returning along with several rising starts who will be performing in the production for the first time.



The lead cast includes; Glenn Graham, Reece Causton, Ben Brown, Andrew Monaghan, Ashley Shaw, Cordelia Braithwaites, Andrew Monaghan, Sophia Hurdley, Katie Webb, Liam Mower, Jackson Fisch, Glenn Graham, Liam Mower and Danny Reubens.



They are joined by Steph Billers, João Carolino, Cameron Flynn, Christina Rebecca Gibbs, Rose Goddard, Bryony Harrison, Daisy May Kemp, Kate Lyons, Matt Petty, Catrin Thomas, Jem Trim and Joshua White.



The Red Shoes is a tale of obsession, possession and one girl's dream to be the greatest dancer in the world. Victoria Page lives to dance but her ambitions become a battleground between the two men who inspire her passion.



The Red Shoes will be at Wales Millennium Centre 31 March – 4 April 2020.





HEATHERS THE MUSICAL ANNOUNCES UK TOUR



Following two smash-hit record breaking seasons in the West End in 2018, Heathers The Musical is embarking on a highly anticipated UK tour. Based on the 1988 cult classic film of the same name, Heathers The Musical follows protagonist Veronica Sawyer, who joins a school clique of Heathers – maniacal, primary coloured-blazer-wearing teens all called Heather at Westberg High, until things take a bloodsoaked twist.



The musical is directed by acclaimed American screen and stage director Andy Fickman, with choreography by Thriller Live’s Gary Lloyd, design by David Shields, lighting by Ben Cracknell and sound by Dan Samson.



Heathers The Musical will be at Wales Millennium Centre 16-20 June 2020. On sale will be from November 2019, full information can be found online here.

THE COMMITMENTS RETURNS WITH UK TOUR



Five years after a phenomenally successful and record-breaking run in London’s West End and subsequent tour, The Commitments returns with a tour across the UK and Ireland.



Adapted from the novel by Booker prize winning author Roddy Doyle and directed by Caroline Jay Ranger, The Commitments tells the story of Jimmy Rabbitte, a young working-class music fan, who shapes an unlikely bunch of amateur musicians and friends into the finest soul band Dublin has ever produced.



With over 20 soul classics performed live on stage including Night Train, Try A Little Tenderness and River Deep, Mountain High, it’s a guaranteed fabulously-fun night out you will never forget.



The Commitments will be at Wales Millennium Centre 18-23 January 2021.
