Awaken Productions / Cwmni Ennyn present GROWING PAINS/GLASOED by Anna Sherrat at Aberystwyth Arts Centre Thursday 8 October (English performance) and Friday 9 October (Welsh performance) 2015 Roxy is having the time of her life, playing a worldwide tour and fulfilling her dreams of pop stardom with her musical mentor, Soffia. Tonight, she returns to Aberystwyth, the town she once called home, to bask in the glory of her successes, but there’s something amiss… Her childhood best friend Laura keeps showing up and reminding her of a time when her name was Elin, and other things she thought she’d buried in the past. Part rock gig, part play, Growing Pains tells a story of friendship, idols, and coming of age. Awaken Productions/Cwmni Ennyn is a new company founded by locals Anna Sherratt and Catrin Lloyd (credits include Y Bont – Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, 2013 and Cliona in original musical The Sea Maiden, 2012) following their studies together at the University of South Wales, and Sian Spence following a long history of acting in Aberystwyth (recently Viola in Twelfth Night, 2015 and Third Maggie in The Mill on the Floss, 2015). They were brought together by a passion for stories, storytelling, and song-writing for stage. They work bilingually, mixing languages and original music with playful and topical stories, inspired by real-life events, current affairs and well known folk tales. The performers are young people from the local area; they have all been regulars in Aberystwyth Arts Centre Community and Youth Theatre productions over the years. Lloyd and Spence are joined by actor-musicians Maeve O’ Connor (Mrs Tulliver - The Mill on the Floss, 2015), Tim Medcalf (Tom – The Mill on the Floss, 2015) and Georgia Sian Clarke (First Maggie - The Mill on the Floss, 2015). Local musician László Blower, also known as László Xavia, joins the musicians in the cast following the release of his debut EP Stories from Home (2015) and a recent European tour. Growing Pains / Glasoed is written and directed by Anna Sherratt, whose theatre credits include Kit/Waitress/Shona in merched@Top Girls (University of South Wales, 2012) and musician in Y Bont (Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, 2013), she also wrote and directed original musical The Sea Maiden (2012) and has recently written two original songs for cancer charity Clic Sargent, Bring it On and Brave (2015). Anna is delighted to be bringing a production back to her hometown, having spent many years of her childhood taking part in productions by the Arts Centre Stage School and Youth Theatre. Her first introduction to the theatre was in the audience at Aberystwyth Arts Centre’s 1995 production of The Wizard of Oz.
