![]() Now in its fourth year, Newport’s very own dance festival is back for another week-long celebration at The Riverfront Theatre. We’ve got a jam-packed week of events including a dance performance at Newport’s historic Indoor Market featuring a colourful mix of professional, community, disabled and non-disabled dancers, a fantastic double bill from Joanna Young, a performance of a Shakespeare classic from Ballet Cymru, free dance in the foyer from Dance Shorts and Rubicon, a breakdance competition and a street dance photography exhibition! The programme for the festival is as follows... First Position (U) Monday 11 & Wednesday 13 November, 7.45pm Bess Kargman’s award-winning documentary follows six extraordinary dancers as they prepare for the chance to enter the world of professional ballet. Stuck in the Mud Tuesday 12 & Wednesday 13 November, 4pm & 6pm Choreographed by internationally renowned Marc Brew and featuring over 40 professional, community, disable and non-disabled dancers, this is a colourful and family friendly performance, taking place at Newport’s treasured Indoor Market. Army of Me & The House Opposite Tuesday 12 November, 7.30pm Joanna Young presents this fantastic double bill of dance, followed by a very special post-show discussion with Joanna herself. A Midsummer Night’s Dream Thursday 14 & Friday 15 November, 7.30pm Ballet Cymru present an outstanding adaptation of Shakespeare’s timeless play, with breath-taking choreography set to Mendelssohn’s joyous music. Free Dance in the Foyer... Rubicon Dance Wednesday 13 November, 7.15pm & Thursday 14 November, 7pm Dance Shorts Friday 15 November, 7pm A taste of new and exciting dance performed by dance Shorts and students of Rubicon Dance. Floor Wars Saturday 16 November, 2pm Another great day of 3 on 3 battle, featuring top DJs and judges and crews from far and wide! Discover Dance Exhibition Friday 1 November – Saturday 16 November This exhibition of photographs explores B-Boy and Street Dance, featuring images of exponents of this most dynamic of art forms.
