Try your hand at circus skills this Easter!

There’s a once in a life time opportunity at Bedwas Workman’s Hall this Easter… Blackwood Miners’ Institute and Citrus Arts are looking for 10-20 year olds to get involved in a series of FREE circus skills workshops.

The workshops, which are supported by the Arts Council of Wales, will teach young people extreme circus skills, such as aerial work from a bungee harness, acrobatics, staff work and more. These skills will be combined with dance and physical theatre to create a choreographed, martial arts themed spectacle. The project culminates in a performance for friends and family.

The project will take place over eight days, during the two weeks of the 2013 Easter Holidays. Week one will be on: 25th March, 26th March, 27th March and 28th March. Week two will take place on: 2nd April, 3rd April, 4th April and 5th April.

Katie Arthur, Sales & Audiences Manager at Blackwood Miners’ Institute said: "This is such an exciting opportunity for young people and we are delighted to be part of it.”

“The workshops will teach young people circus skills, but not the usual kind – no juggling! It’s the perfect way to get physically active and involved with performing arts, whilst learning new skills.”

Citrus Arts are a south Wales based company founded in 2009 by Welsh artists James and Bridie Doyle - Roberts, whose shared backgrounds include circus, street theatre, drama, dance, choreography, theatrical movement direction and educational engagement.

Their aim is to create original works that combine spectacle, physical skills and technical ingenuity that create unique and artistically thoughtful shows. They have also helped deliver ambitious creative projects both indoors and outdoors in partnership with local authorities, theatre and festivals.

The workshops are open to groups or individuals. For more information, or to get a registration form, please call Blackwood Miners’ Institute’s box office on 01495 227206 or visit www.blackwoodminersinstitute.com
