Wales’ Number 1 Amateur Dramatic Society celebrates 40 years.

Wales’ Number 1 Amateur Dramatic Society celebrates 40 years. In 1969 an enthusiastic group of friends launched the Orbit Theatre Company and premiered their first show at the New Theatre, Cardiff. Today they are one of Wales’ most successful amateur dramatic societies and to mark their 40th anniversary they will return to the New Theatre to tackle their most ambitious musical project yet – The Producers from Tuesday 20 – Saturday 24 October.

Executive Producer Malcolm Brooke said “The very first show that Orbit Theatre performed forty years ago was the Welsh premiere of Lionel Bart's Oliver! at the New Theatre. Forty years and 80 plus shows later, we are proud to say that we have been given special permission to perform the Welsh amateur premiere of the Broadway hit The Producers to celebrate our 40th anniversary”

From the mind of comedy genius Mel Brooks The Producers is the wacky tale of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom, a pair of Broadway producers seeking to con their investors by staging a show so awful that it closes on the opening night. A huge success in the West End, the show is full of larger than life characters, hilarious situations and a jaw dropping Springtime for Hitler sequence that has to be seen to be believed.

The 2001 Broadway production starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick won a record breaking 12 Tony Awards and the majority of the original cast appeared in the 2005 film adaptation.

Orbit Theatre has showcased the finest acting, singing and dancing from the Cardiff area with an impressive track record of high quality and enjoyable productions, including High School Musical, Fiddler on the Roof, Annie and The Wizard of Oz.

The Producers is at the New Theatre, Cardiff from Tuesday 20 – Saturday 24 October. Tickets range from £7.50 - £17.50 and can be booked via the Box Office on 029 2087 8889 or online* at www.newtheatrecardiff.co.uk
