DIVERSIONS Dance Company are the toast of the international stage following an appearance at the Tanzmesse dance festival in Dusseldorf. |
![]() Their two performances of Stephen Shropshire’s Sugarwater had been eagerly awaited and photography of the dancers by Diversions artistic associate Roy Campbell-Moore was selected as the “face” of Tanzmesse. Shropshire, who has been appointed artistic director of Noord Nederlandse Dan, worked with the company’s celebrated rehearsal director Jo Fong to fine tune the Dusseldorf performances. Dancers, choreographers, buyers, theatres and dance industry companies from around the globe packed the venue for the two Diversions performances. Artistic director Ann Sholem said: “I was delighted with how the company was received at this great international festival of dance in Dusseldorf.” “It showed we are now firmly established on the world stage, which is wonderful for our dancers and the reputation of Wales abroad. “It’s also good that we can share that message with audiences, dance-lovers and opinion-formers in Wales, as well as those who benefit from Diversions through our extensive participatory work.” Tanzmesse marked the first public appearance by the company’s new dancers, Viivi Keskinen and Yuval Lev as well as new apprentices Nancy Nerantzi and Riccardo Vitello. Welsh audiences will be able to see them when the new season Silver: Autumn is performed at the Dance House, Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff, on September 18 and 19, before it tours to Theatr Gwynedd, Bangor( 25, 26 September), Clwyd Theatr Cymru, Mold (29, 30 September), The Courtyard, Hereford (October 2) and Theatr Hafren, Newtown (23, 24 October). There will also be special performances at La Fundicion Festival, Bilbao on October 12 and Playhouse Theatre, Liverpool, European City of Culture, on November 1.
