![]() An unruly bunch of bright, funny sixth-form boys in pursuit of sex, sport and a place at university. A maverick English teacher at odds with the young and shrewd supply teacher. A headmaster obsessed with results, and a history teacher who thinks he’s a fool. In Alan Bennett’s new play, staffroom rivalry and the anarchy of adolescence provoke insistent questions about history and how you teach it; about education and its purpose. Simultaneously tragic, shocking and hilarious The History Boys is sure to go down in theatrical history as one of Bennett’s finest works. Seven prestigious British award ceremonies named The History Boys Best Play of the Year, whilst five American panels promptly followed suit. Furthermore The History Boys won four Olivier Awards, theatreland’s equivalent of the Oscars, and an outstanding six Tony Awards for its Broadway run. With such spectacular credentials behind it there is little wonder why tickets are selling so fast for its first trip to Cardiff. The tour boasts the finest theatre actors Britain has to offer. Joining the likes of Stephen Moore and Isla Fisher is young Welsh actor Owain Arthur who, fresh from drama school, makes his professional debut as part of The History Boys tour. In association with VocalEyes, The History Boys marks the first ever Touch Tour at the New Theatre. Touch Tours are an opportunity for blind and partially sighted people to explore the set, props, costumes close up and enhance the experience and enjoyment of a production. The audio description company providing the Touch Tour, VocalEyes, takes an holistic approach to the service ensuring that blind or partially sighted people get the best experience of a performance at the theatre. Along with the VocalEyes describer, people will have the opportunity to handle some of the props, touch parts of the set and have the stage and set described to them. The History Boys is at the New Theatre, Cardiff from Tuesday 14 to Saturday 18 November. Tickets for The History Boys are on sale now, with prices from £7. The show contains some strong language. The free Touch Tour is on Saturday 18 November at 1pm, lasting roughly 30 minutes. Places should be pre-booked when purchasing tickets from Box Office.
