Complete with shadow goblins, wanderers and other wonderful creatures, this is a magical and mystical musical adventure for all the family that will have you laughing and singing all the way home. The colourful spectacle and sheer energy provided by this magical musical adventure full of enchanting characters, hilarious scripting and unforgettable melodies, has made it a firm favourite with adults as well as children since its South Wales premiere in 2003. A delightful ‘feel-good’ family show by John Manders (book and lyrics) and award winning composer Matt Brind (music and lyrics)

Welsh National Youth Opera - Candide
15 Jul 06 -17 Jul 06
A new production by Welsh National Youth Opera of Leonard Bernstein’s Candide - a great American masterpiece in its 50th anniversary year. This satirical musical set in the 18th century and based on Voltaire, savagely satires philosophy, nobility and religion - mocking the black and white view his contemporaries had of the world and attacking the perennial follies of humankind.

Candide is a story of a young man who must circumnavigate the globe in search of his love. His adventures take him all over Europe and South America as he tries to secure happiness and maintain a ridiculous optimism in the face of cruelty and oppression. He eventually comes full circle and concludes to give up trying to make sense of the world and ‘Make our garden grow’ - inspiring one of Bernstein's best-known songs.

This radiant show promises dazzling musical fireworks, acerbic wit, tenderness and grandeur in a story and message that strikes a chord as much today as ever.

The Canterbury Tales
17 Jun 06
Choreographed by Darius James. Independent Ballet Wales’ stunning new production of Geoffrey Chaucer’s classic of English literature ‘The Canterbury Tales’.

Introducing a group of men and women from all strands of society on a pilgrimage from London to Canterbury, The Canterbury Tales recounts the stories they decide to tell one another to pass the time. Join the pilgrims in their colourful dance, recounting tales that resonate through centuries. From the earthy wife of Bath to the gentlemanly knight, from the nun to the squire, to the monk to the miller, Independent Ballet Wales vivid interpretation brings Chaucer’s motley crowd of characters alive.
An outstanding production from an exceptional dance company.

Being Doris Day - In contrast to the homely, ever cheerful image projected in her movies, Doris Day’s own life has been something of a rollercoaster, with many periods of heartbreak and pain.
This new show features a selection of her most popular songs presented within the context of an extraordinary life.
Performed by Jessica Sandry.

Binkie Beaumont - By Mark Ryan (writer of previous Scotsman's 'Pick of the Fringe'). A fantastic cocktail of murder and theatricality where John Gielgud, Noel Coward, Edith Evans and Emlyn Williams are the unusual suspects.

Resisting the demarcation of society, and with the help of a good friend, Mary rises above all expectations.. Perceptions will be challenged, obstacles will be overcome, and prejudices will be re-evaluated in this thought provoking tale of breaking out.
This play will be of particular interest to people within the learning disabled community. Featuring Sarah Gordy - a fantastic professional actress with Downs syndrome.
