The Morals of Modern Day Myths

Traditional Storytelling given contemporary twist in a new play by Cardiff playwright
The tradition of story telling has been dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century in a brand new play by Cardiff playwright Angharad Devonald.

The Morals of Modern Day Myths, staged at the Sherman Theatre's Venue 2 on 29 and 30 April, explores modern day relationships and re-writes the rules of 21st century love.

Nine stories and forty five characters pop in and out of each other exploding expectations and giving life to humorous modern day urban myths.
The show's cast includes Con Passionate’s Arwel Davies, Tom Englishby, Mike Geary, Caitlin Richards, Lucy Rivers and Pobol y Cwm actress Lauren Phillips. The play is directed by Emma Colohan, founding member of Dublin's Articulate Anatomy theatre company.

Cardiff musician Jonathan R. Thomas, who regularly plays with the Super Furry Animals and The Thrills, has written the original score for the show, which is being staged with support from the Arts Council of Wales.

Originally from Llantrisant, Angharad Devonald, 25, studied Theatre Studies at Trinity College Dublin before returning to Wales to pursue a career as a writer. Angharad has worked on soap opera Pobol y Cwm, as well as TV comedy drama Not Getting Any. She was previously a member of the Sherman Youth Theatre.
Angharad says, "The Morals of Modern Day Myths explores different aspects of men and women's relationships in modern society, with stories within stories, like a Babushka doll, gradually unfolding from one another.

"The play has a high energy contemporary feel, and is heavily ironic in tone. I hope it will strike a chord with the younger generation of audience in particular."
Tickets for The Morals of Modern Day Myths, staged on 29 and 30 April, are available priced £10/£8 from the Sherman Theatre Box Office on 029 20 646900.
